Health IT Now Submits Comments on the Discussion Draft on SGR Repeal and Medicare Physician Payment Reform
Last week, Health IT Now submitted comments on the Discussion Draft on SGR Repeal and Medicare Physician Payment Reform. Health IT Now supports many of the concepts outlined in the discussion draft because they will improve incentives for adoption and use of health IT, streamline and reduce regulatory burdens providers face in federal health IT incentive programs, and, ultimately, create a better structure to promote better health outcomes at lower costs. Specifically, we believe any SGR reform proposal should:
- Include incentives to adopt technology that allows providers to better coordinate care;
- Reduce regulatory burdens on health care providers;
- Require interoperability by a date certain to ensure the technology tools used by providers are useful in coordinating care and valuable to consumers; and
- Eliminate barriers to the use of lower cost, technology enabled service delivery, such as remote monitoring and telemedicine.
