More HIE grants awarded

On Monday March 22, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced $160 million of the final set of grants to help states adopt health information technology. The grants are part of the State Health Information Exchange Cooperative Agreement Program mandated in the 2009 Stimulus bill.

The final round of grants brings the total of states, US territories and qualified State Designated Entities who have received grants to 56. You can access the complete list of grant awardees by clicking here. The total amount of grants awarded adds up to $547,703,438.

This funding will go to states to enable them to invest in infrastructure and systems that will allow them to exchange medical data throughout the state and across the country.
