Rep. Phil Gingrey Voices Support for Interoperability
During the Full Committee markup of the SGR reform package, Congressman Phil Gingrey expressed the need for more work and robust interoperability to help ensure care coordination and quality improvement models are successful in a revised Medicare payment system.
As we consider the next steps after SGR repeal, I hope that we will be able to continue to focus on how to further improve medical care in this country. I think that it’s important to stress that interoperable health information systems and coordinated, quality care for consumers go hand-in-hand. Without interoperability, it is unlikely any of the revolutionary alternative payment models that will be created due to H.R. 2810 will maximize its potential for lowering costs and improving quality. The Administration, specifically ONC, must ensure that health information technology is interoperable so that doctors are successful in the new payment and delivery models included in the bipartisan SGR replacement bill. I hope to work to address this issue in the future.
As we know, Congressman Gingrey has been very active on health IT issues, and we agree that the new payment models envisioned under the E&C bill requires interoperable health IT tools to empower providers to be successful.
